When I recently saw a sunflower field in Wesley Chapel, NC. it reminded me of the beautiful sunflower fields we often saw in Ukraine.
Sunflowers have always been a beloved symbol of Ukrainian national identity. But now, since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine 19 months ago, the flower has emerged as a worldwide symbol of solidarity for the country and one of resistance for its people.
Sadly, sunflowers don’t exist today in the great numbers that they used to. Sunflower production is nearly half what of it was prior to the war. The limited exportation of sunflower seeds and sunflower oil has negatively affected both farmers and the national economy.
When you see a sunflower, please pause and pray for peace in Ukraine.
Let’s bring back the sunflowers!
Thank you.
