Although opponent Yulia Tymoshenko still says Victor Yanukovich did not win the election legitimately, Western governments have congratulated Yanukovich on his victory and international observers gave the election the all-clear. The fight is over. There will not be a second “Orange Revolution.”
What does this mean to the evangelical church in Ukraine? It could mean a return to strict government limitations of
church activities. Some fear the introduction of Belarus-like controls such as forbidding believers to evangelize outside of their buildings or disallowing the construction of new churches.
In general, Ukrainian believers are not putting hope in any major political party. As one believer told me, “The Orange Revolution (of 2004) taught us that we should put our hope in God, not in a new government.”
Amen.
