English clubs are an effective method of evangelism in Ukraine (and in other countries where people want to learn English). Cheri and I are teaching weekly in an English club here in Kiev. We teach people how to speak English and at the same time frankly discuss spiritual matters.
The club is informal and there is no pressure to “convert on the spot.” Some clubs feel the need to hide their religious affilitations, but thankfully, our club is completely open about being sponsored and staffed by Christians. We are enjoying building relationships and interacting with Ukrainians.
The highlight for me last week was when a college student named Yaroslav pulled me aside after the lesson and said, “Tell me more about the meaning of true faith.” After I finished he said, “These are good words.” It was Yaroslav’s first time in the club, and I think his first time to hear about faith in Christ. Please pray that he will come back next week.
