Ukrainian Presidential Runoff Election this Sunday (February 7th)

Yulia Christian Training Ukraine

Most Americans look forward to the Super Bowl this Sunday, but for Ukrainians the Super Bowl is not even on the radar.  After last month’s preliminary election the 18 candidates running for the presidency of Ukraine were reduced to two.  Victor Yanukovych led the preliminaries with 35% and Yulia Tymoshenko trailed with 25%.  The runoff election is scheduled for this coming Sunday.

Most evangelical Christians favor Tymoshenko because she has a track record of religious tolerance and has helped protestant churches by reinstating some of their rights.  Also, one of her chief advisors

is an active Christian and a member in good standing of a local evangelical church.

If a majority of the voters who supported one of the 16 losing candidates swing their votes to Yulia, a Tymoshenko win is still possible.  Many evangelical Christians are praying that this will be the case, believing that the church will be freer under her leadership to assemble, grow and preach the Gospel.

We ask you to join us and the Ukrainian believers in praying that whatever happens, the Lord’s kingdom will grow as a result of this upcoming election.
